BIN to JPG Converter

Convert a BIN file containing image data into a JPG. Upload the file, convert, and download the result. No account, no watermark, and the upload is deleted after processing.

Before you upload anything, there is one thing worth knowing, because it decides whether this conversion can work at all.

BIN is not really a format

Most file extensions tell you what is inside. PNG means a PNG, DOCX means a Word document. BIN means only "this file is binary", which is true of nearly every file on your computer.

It is a catch-all. A .bin file might be a CD or DVD disc image, firmware for a router or a games console, a save file, a texture or asset pack from a game, a raw sensor dump, a database blob, or an ordinary photograph that lost its real extension when it was copied off a device or recovered from a damaged card.

Only the last two can become a JPG. A disc image has no picture in it to extract, and no converter can invent one. So the first and most useful step is finding out which kind you have.

How to tell what your BIN file actually is

Nearly every format begins with a short, fixed signature — often called magic bytes — and reading it takes a minute with nothing installed.

On Windows, open the file in Notepad and look at the first line. On macOS or Linux, run file yourfile.bin in a terminal, which identifies it outright. Any free hex editor shows the same thing more clearly.

These are the signatures worth recognising:

ÿØÿ at the very start, or the bytes FF D8 FF — this is a JPEG. Your file is already a photograph and the extension is simply wrong.

‰PNG — a PNG image.

GIF87a or GIF89a — a GIF.

BM — a bitmap.

RIFF near the start with WEBP shortly after — a WebP image.

%PDF — a PDF document, not an image.

PK — a ZIP archive, which also means a DOCX, XLSX or similar.

CD001 appearing around 32 KB in — an ISO disc image.

If you see readable text such as hardware names or version strings scattered through the file, it is almost certainly firmware, and there is no image to recover.

If it is already a JPEG, just rename it

This is the most common case by a wide margin, and it needs no converter at all.

When the signature is FF D8 FF, the file is a complete, valid JPEG that merely has the wrong name. Change the extension from .bin to .jpg and every program will open it normally. On Windows you may need to enable file extensions first: in File Explorer, the View menu, then File name extensions.

Nothing is lost doing this, because nothing is being re-encoded. You are correcting a label, not converting a file. Running it through a converter instead would decode and re-encode the image, which can only lose a little quality.

How to convert BIN to JPG

  1. Check the signature first, using the section above.
  2. If it is a PNG, GIF, BMP or WebP under a .bin extension, upload it here.
  3. Convert.
  4. Download the JPG.

There is nothing to configure — no quality slider or size options.

When no conversion is possible

It is worth being plain about this rather than letting you discover it by uploading.

Disc images. A .bin paired with a .cue file is a CD or DVD image. There is no single picture inside. Mount it with a tool that handles disc images and look at the files on the disc instead.

Firmware. Router, console and device firmware is executable code and configuration. Nothing in it is a photograph.

Game assets. Textures packed into .bin files use engine-specific layouts, often compressed. Extracting them needs a tool written for that particular game.

Raw sensor data. Some scientific and industrial cameras write undocumented binary. Converting it needs the manufacturer's software, which knows the dimensions and pixel layout.

In each case a converter has nothing to work with. A file that is not a picture cannot be made into one.

Recovering images from a damaged card or drive

A common route to a mysterious .bin is file recovery. Recovery tools that cannot identify a file often write what they found with a generic extension.

If that is your situation, check the signature. Recovered JPEGs usually start with FF D8 FF and only need renaming. If the signature is missing or garbled, the file is probably incomplete — recovered partially — and no converter will repair it. A recovery tool with JPEG carving support, which rebuilds files by finding their start and end markers directly on the disk, has a better chance than converting afterwards.

About JPG

JPG, also written JPEG, comes from the Joint Photographic Experts Group standard published in 1992. It compresses by discarding detail the eye is least sensitive to, which makes photographs very small at the cost of being lossy — every save degrades the image slightly. It is the right destination for photographs and the wrong one for screenshots, logos or line art, where PNG keeps edges sharp.

JPG and JPEG are the same format. The shorter spelling survives from early Windows, which allowed only three-letter extensions.

FAQs

Why will my BIN file not convert?
Almost certainly because it contains no image. Check the first bytes: if they are not a known image signature, there is nothing to convert.
How do I check what is inside?
Open it in Notepad and read the first line, or run file yourfile.bin on macOS or Linux. FF D8 FF means JPEG, ‰PNG means PNG, CD001 around 32 KB in means a disc image.
My file starts with ÿØÿ — what now?
It is already a JPEG. Rename it from .bin to .jpg. No conversion needed, and renaming avoids the slight quality loss of re-encoding.
Can I extract pictures from a disc image?
Not with this tool. Mount the image with software that reads disc images, then take the files off it normally.

My BIN came from data recovery.

Check the signature. Recovered JPEGs usually just need renaming. If the signature is damaged the file is incomplete, and no converter can rebuild it.

Is a .bin with a .cue file convertible?
No. That pairing is always a disc image. The .cue describes the track layout of the .bin.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The conversion runs in your browser and works the same on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
Free, and no account. Nothing is added to the file you get back.
What happens to my file after conversion?
It is removed once processing has finished. Nobody else has access to it.
